Sérgio spent a month and a half in the collections of the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York and the National Museum of Natural History (USNM) in Washington DC to collect geometric morphometric data on ant-eating mammals and closely related species. During this visit, 3D landmarks were placed with a Microscribe on a total of 323 specimens accounting for 29 taxa. Anteaters (Vermilingua) were the focus group with 161 specimens collected. The remaining landmarked specimens are distributed as follows: Pholidota (82), Carnivora (38), Tubulidentata (21), Cingulata (19), Folivora (5).
